Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards, including the allocation of funding across its various programmes.
Sport Ireland does not provide direct funding for clubs or individuals but channels the funding through the relevant National Governing Body (NGB). In the case of motorsport, Motorsport Ireland is the relevant funded NGB. Clubs are advised to contact Motorsport Ireland to see what support might be available through the NGB to assist them.
My Department coordinates Government support for major international sports events such as the Ryder Cup 2027 and the UEFA Euro 2028 Tournament. It is standard practice that proposals for major sports events such as these are supported initially by a preliminary screening questionnaire which is required to be completed and submitted to allow the department to make recommendations to me regarding any potential support for such events.
As the events cited would not seem to qualify as a major international sports events, I have referred the Deputy's question to Sport Ireland for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to inform my office if a reply is not received within 10 days.
