To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will intervene on behalf of a club (details supplied) requesting the diocese to authorise approval for a joint application to upgrade the current astro pitch surface to a 5G surface, in line with the proposed amendment to Annex XXX No 1907/2006 by the European Commission which will ban the use of plastics on artificial pitches; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Diocesan Trusts are welcome to submit applications on behalf of schools under my Department's Sports Capital and Equipment Programme provided that they do so jointly with one or more sport clubs. A decision to apply on this basis is entirely a matter for the relevant school and Diocesan Trust; as Minister, I have no role in such a decision.
