150. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to report on the success rate of the system used for mutual recognition of disqualified drivers between the UK and Ireland; to provide an update on his Department's review of the system used in Ireland; his intention to adopt the UK 'administrative' system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The agreement on the mutual recognition of driving disqualifications between Ireland and the United Kingdom is set out in the Road Traffic Act 2016.
Under section 40(10) of the Act, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) is the competent authority of the State and the central authority of the State for the purposes of the agreement.
Information regarding the operation of the agreement is be held by that agency. I have therefore referred the question to the RSA for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response is not received within 10 days.
It is my Department's intention to review the agreement. However, this will have to be done in conjunction with the UK, as set out in the agreement.
