Grant funding of €7,000 is made available by my Department to support the start-up of a sensory room within an existing school. In order to qualify for the grant, the school must demonstrate that it has a National Council for Special Education (NCSE) approved Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class and that there is a suitable area to house the sensory room within the school. The school to which the Deputy refers submitted a request for funding for the start-up of a sensory room. However, the school in question does not have an ASD class and therefore is not eligible for this grant funding at present.
