275. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if a sensory room grant application from a school has been received (details supplied); when a decision is expected on this application; if a lottery system will be implemented in the event a large volume of applications from primary schools are received that exceed the budgetary provisions of this sensory room grant scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Grant funding of €7,000 is made available by my Department to support the start-up of a sensory room within an existing school. In order to qualify for the grant, the school must demonstrate that it has a National Council for Special Education (NCSE) approved Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class and that there is a suitable area to house the sensory room within the school. The school to which the Deputy refers submitted a request for funding for the start-up of a sensory room. However, the school in question does not have an ASD class and therefore is not eligible for this grant funding at present.
