357. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the rules and legislation that apply to the transportation of dead horses; if his attention has been drawn to a recent instance of a dead horse being transported openly in a regional town; the actions his Department has taken in response to this and similar instances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The legislation regarding the collection, transportation and disposal of Animal By-Products (which includes dead horses) is set out in Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 and Regulation (EC) No 142/2011. My Department has also set out a number of conditions which registered operators need to comply with. Below is the link to the conditions that relate to registered transporters of Animal By-Products.

In relation to your query referring to a recent incident in a regional town, I would appreciate if you could supply any specific information you have relating to the incident to my Department so that the matter can be reviewed, with a view to further action, if necessary.
