My Department jointly published the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People (NHSDP) 2022-2027 with the Department of Health and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth in January 2022 and the Implementation Plan for the Strategy on 22 June 2023. Disabled people are allocated social housing support through all of the available routes, namely, standard local authority housing, Rental Assistance Scheme, Approved Housing Bodies and the Housing Assistance Payment Scheme. Since 2017, The Housing Agency has collated figures from each local authority on their allocation in the previous year to disabled people under each of the four categories and as a percentage of their overall allocations. The allocations to disabled people have increased year-on-year. Data from local authorities indicate increased allocations of social housing to households with disability as a primary basis of need. In 2022, 2,472 households with a disability as a primary basis of need were accommodated across local authorities representing 15% of total allocations for 2022. Data collation in relation to allocations of accommodation to disabled people for 2023 is currently being finalised by the Housing Agency.
