The Government created a salmon hardship fund for those who were directly affected by the cessation of mixed stock fishing in 2006. The scheme was administered by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) – a body under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Neither my Department nor Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) had any function or role to play in the administration and management of the scheme or indeed payments made to individuals who applied under the hardship scheme.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) has established a specific email address for queries from Oireachtas members so that queries can be addressed promptly, in line with BIM’s objective to deliver services to the highest standards. The email address is Oireachtas.queries@bim.ie
