114. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if there is a licence required from his Department for the selling of vermicast (the processing of organic wastes through earthworms) in Ireland; what is being done by the Department to promote this industry here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The practice of vermicast where the earthworms are being commercially farmed falls under the EU Animal By-Products regulations and as such operators are required to register with my Department. I am aware that my Department has recently met with and are actively engaging with potential operators from this sector.
