The large scale capital project at the school referred to by the Deputy, is at Architectural Planning Stage 3 – Tender Action and Award and is included in my Department’s Construction Programme which will be delivered under the National Development Plan (NDP) as part of Project Ireland 2040 framework.
The project brief includes a new extension and the refurbishment of the existing school, to provide accommodation for 1000 pupils with classrooms for children with Special Educational needs, new science labs and a new PE hall.
The authorisation to issue the Letter of Intent issued in May 2024, following which there is a minimum 14 day standstill period before there can be further progression. The period between Letter of Intent and Letter of Acceptance varies depending on the project and the extent of post-tender clarifications required.
When the project commences on site there will be an estimated 20 month contract duration.
My Department will update the school authorities when there is a further update on the progression of the project.
