Over the remainder of this Dáil session, my Department will be prioritising the progression of the two items of legislation which it has on the Priority for Publication List in the Government Legislation Programme for the Summer Session 2024 - the Civil Service Regulation and Public Service Management (Amendment) Bill and the Statute Law Revision Bill.

The main purpose of the Civil Service Regulation and Public Service Management (Amendment) Bill is to amend the Civil Service Regulation Acts 1956-2005 and the Public Service Management Act 1997 to provide that disciplinary action up to and including dismissal in the Civil Service can be assigned below the level of the head of the organisation (Appropriate Authority) and other miscellaneous amendments to modernise the legislation based on the General Scheme. Further amendment of the General Scheme was approved by Government on 5 March, 2024 to establish a Senior Post Remuneration Committee and certain terms and conditions for Secretaries General.

My Department will be seeking approval to publish the Statute Law Revision Bill before the summer recess. The General Scheme has been prepared and the drafting of the Bill is ongoing with Office of Parliamentary Counsel.

Finally, in line with the Priority for Drafting List in the Government Legislation Programme, the Office of Public Works is continuing its work on the River Shannon Management Body Bill.
