Under the 2022 Community Centre Investment Fund, over €45.8 million was committed for improvement and refurbishment works on over 860 existing community centres. Earlier this year I approved further funding of over €30 million for the construction of 12 new community centres under a separate new build measure of the scheme. The funding for all of these projects is being managed by my Department on a multi-annual basis.
The budgetary allocation for the Community Centre Investment Fund in 2023 was €20 million. This included a €16 million budget allocation and a capital carry over from 2022 of €4 million.
In 2023 a total of €26 million was spent under the Community Centre Investment Fund, hence there was no underspend to be carried forward into 2024. This level of spending, over and above the initial budgetary allocation, was possible due €6 million in savings that was available elsewhere in my Department.
