Planning is a regulated profession under the terms of Directive 2005/36 and the regulator in Ireland is the Irish Planning Institute (IPI). Five programmes are accredited by this regulator in Irish universities.
The data attached was sourced from the Student Records System database of the Higher Education Authority. Student numbers are rounded to the nearest five for data protection purposes.
The information the Deputy has requested regarding where planners are employed after graduating is not available to my Department. Some data pertaining to post graduation employment can be accessed from the Graduate Outcomes survey conducted by the HEA and is available here:
As per the most recent graduate outcomes survey, 90.4% of respondents who graduated from the Architecture & Town Planning course categorisation code were employed in Ireland. There is no way of distinguishing between those in private or public practice.
