My Department received an offer of accommodation for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) at the location to which the Deputy refers.

Offers of accommodation to BOTPs where properties are in need of significant conversion and refurbishment works are passed on to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for assessment under the Emergency Refurbishment (Ukraine) Programme (ERUP).

As with all offers of accommodation to accommodate BOTPs, but most particularly with regard to those requiring conversion/refurbishment, a detailed assessment must be carried out to ensure the property being offered is being prepared to the required standard and complies with building, fire and other statutory requirements. Accommodation providers are responsible for engaging with the relevant local authority when carrying out the refurbishment works. The property to which the Deputy refers has been referred to the relevant local authority and a reply is awaited.

Before a property in the ERUP programme is contracted for accommodating BOTPs, the relevant local authority confirms to my Department that the property is in compliance with key requirements, including planning, fire and other regulatory requirements.

If the property is deemed suitable for use, further communication will issue to elected representatives and other members of the community.

Since the outset of the war in Ukraine in early 2022, Ireland has provided accommodation to over 115,000 people between those fleeing Ukraine and International Protection applicants. This includes approximately 84,500 Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) from Ukraine who required State supported accommodation and over 30,700 International Protection applicants currently in IPAS accommodation. Prior to the war in Ukraine, there were 8,300 applicants for international protection in State supported accommodation.

My Department does not publicly detail information in the manner requested by the Deputy in the interest of the privacy and security of residents and providers.

The table below provides a breakdown of Beneficiaries on Temporary Protection (BOTPs) and International Protection Applicants (IPs) at County level. In the case of County Clare, as of 30 May 2024, there are 907 IP applicants and 2,833 BOTPs resident in the county.

Please note that in relation to BOTPs, the below table refers to BOTPs in DCEDIY-provided accommodation only. I should also point out to the Deputy that that these figures provide an overview at a point in time and are contingent on a number of factors that are subject to change including accommodation availability, providers in contract at any given time, configurations, transfers resulting from contracts ceasing.
