553.To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if she will consult with the Garda Commissioner on whether there are any plans in 2025 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the amalgamation of the Dublin Metropolitan Police into An Garda Síochána; if there will be a medal issued to all existing members, and not just members in the Dublin Metropolitan Region to mark the occasion; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, the Garda Commissioner is by law responsible for the administration of An Garda Síochána, including any decisions around commemorations. I am advised by the Garda authorities that to mark the 100th anniversary of the historic amalgamation with the Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP), a Committee under the management of the Assistant Commissioner for the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) has been established, to propose a commemorative programme to mark the occasion.
I am further advised that at this time, there are no definitive plans in this regard. It is anticipated that further information in respect of a proposal concerning a commemorative programme will be available in the coming months.
