As the Deputy will be aware, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business under section 26 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (as amended), which includes all operational policing matters. As Minister for Justice, I play no role in the investigation of any allegations of criminal activity.
The Central Statistics Office is the statutory body established to compile and publish statistical information for the State, including crime statistics. The CSO publish updated crime statistics at 3-month intervals and 3 months in arrears. Q1 2024 statistics will be made available during June 2024: .
To be of assistance to the Deputy, the table below provides statistics for the full year, as published by the CSO, for the Dublin Metropolitan Region West for 2023. It should be noted that arson includes any damage without lawful excuse by fire to any property and, therefore, the figures below do not exclusively refer to 'homes' or 'dwellings'.
