The General Services Supervisor (GSS) is the most senior grade within the general operative and related grades structure in local authorities. It is of its nature therefore primarily a supervisory grade which operates across all of the key functions including Roads, Water and Environment.

The duties assigned to a GSS will vary according to the nature of the role, the number of staff reporting to him/her and the geographical area which he/she is required to cover. The duties will also reflect the individual structure within each local authority and the devolution of responsibility across the grading structure.

Applicants for posts of GSS will receive details of their duties as part of the recruitment process and existing staff members who wish to receive confirmation of their current duties should contact the Human Resources section in their employing local authority.
