34. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade who invited the Israeli ambassador to the national famine commemoration on 19 May 2024; his views on whether this was appropriate given the looming famine in Gaza; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24334/24]

In coordination with the Department of the Taoiseach and other relevant Government Departments and authorities, my Department coordinates attendance by members of the foreign diplomatic corps at certain State events, including the National Famine Commemoration, which took place in Edgeworthstown Co. Longford on Sunday, 19 May.
In line with the agreed EU position in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation is not invited to official State events in Ireland.
All other resident Heads of Mission were invited to the National Famine Commemoration, including the Ambassador of Israel.
