As the Deputy will be aware, In Ireland, contempt of court is a common law matter.

As part of a suite of measures aimed at improving the operation of the justice system, I am committed to developing proposals to deal with contempt of court sanctions specifically for violations on social media once the Law Reform Commission publishes its report on the issue of contempt.

It is understood that the Law Reform Commission continues to consider the matter, but due to the urgency of other work in hand, its report on contempt is not expected to be published before 2025.

Publication of the Law Reform Commission’s final report is awaited by my Department before any changes to this complex area of law, are considered further.
