I wish to inform the Deputy that an official from my the Payroll Division of my Department has reviewed the overpayment referred to in this case.
The review has found that the circumstances and value of the overpayment is correct. The person referred was notified in November 2020 of the value of the overpayment but no repayment plan agreement was put in place at the time.
As in line with my Department’s Circular 84/2015 on the recovery of overpayments, any outstanding monies owed at retirement will be deducted from a person’s pension benefits.
Details of the Circular on the recovery of overpayments can be found at www.gov.ie/pdf/?file=https://assets.gov.ie/13002/fa74962edbe7444ba424a4f816ab8932.pdf#page=null.
