219. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if she will introduce a requirement that when a person signs on for jobseekers for the first time, as part of the process, their last employer will be contacted to make sure their job ceased to exist; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In order to receive a jobseeker's payment a person must satisfy the conditions for the scheme including being capable of, available for and genuinely seeking full time work. A persons last employer may be contacted in circumstances where additional information is required in order for their jobseekers to be processed and a decision made on their claim. All jobseeker applicants are required to make a declaration that they meet all the conditions for a jobseekers payment.

I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
