189. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport whether the NTA has been made aware of its obligations under the UNCRPD to consult, actively involve and prioritise Disabled Persons Representative Organisations; to provide a register of all organisations the NTA has consulted in relation to visually impaired persons, the number of engagements with each organisation, and the reasoning for each consultation, from 2017 to date in tabular form. My Department and the National Transport Authority (NTA) are aware of the obligations on Member States and public sector organisations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

I can assure the Deputy that my Department and the NTA engage with stakeholders on an on-going basis in relation to responsibilities towards disabled people and persons with disabilities under the UNCRPD and national strategies such as the Public Sector Duty. In addition, the NTA is represented on relevant national groups, for example the Steering Group on the National Disability Inclusion Strategy and the Implementation Group on the Comprehensive Employment Strategy for People with Disabilities.

As the NTA would be able to advise you about its engagement with Disabled Persons' Organisations (DPOs), and organisations it has consulted with in relation to visually impaired people, I have forwarded your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
