To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the steps being taken by him and his Department to avert the threatened strike by retained firefighters around the country; the contingency plans that are being put in place in the event that the strike proceeds in the view of the risk that such a strike would pose to many in society, and the vital and varied role of these firefighters; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
