294. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will outline the number of board members for each state agency, semi-State agency, and public body under the remit of her Department; the current allowance for members of each board; the total number of meetings of each board in each of the past ten years; and the total expenditure on each board every year for the past ten years, in tabular form. As the Deputy will be aware, my Department in its current configuration was established in September 2020 following the General Election of that year. Details of appointments to State Boards of public bodies under the aegis of my Department, including numbers of members of those Boards, are published on the StateBoards.ie website. Further details in relation to the composition of Boards are also available on the websites of the bodies concerned.

Reference to remuneration for Chairpersons and members of Boards relates to the level of fee to which they are entitled and does not infer the fee was drawn down by individual members. Where public servants are appointed to Boards, under the One Person One Salary principal, no fees are payable. Details in relation to Board fees are also available within the respective annual reports of each organisation.

If the Deputy has a particular query in relation to the number of meetings held by an individual Board in a given year, or expenditure of a Board in a given year, my officials will be happy to assist.

The Arts Council consists of a Chair and 12 ordinary members all appointed by me as Minister. Subject to the "One Person, One Salary Rule", the Chair of the Arts Council is entitled to an annual fee of €8,978 and ordinary members are entitled to a fee of €5,985 though some members choose to waive this fee. Details of the number of meetings of the Council as well as all fees and expenses received by members are published annually in the Annual Report which is available to download from the publications section of the Arts Council's website www.artscouncil.ie/publications/?&Category=Annual%20reports

I propose to take Questions Nos. 296, 297, 298, 302 and 303 together.

I am advised that the Board Members of the National Cultural Institutions in question do not receive fees for their membership of the Boards. Arrangements regarding board meetings are part of the day-to-day operations of the National Cultural Institutions in question and information on the number of board meetings and related expenditure is published as part of the Annual Report and Financial Statements published on each Institution’s website and also laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas.
