195. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is aware that older passengers with a free travel pass are being charged to book seats on the Dublin-Belfast train; if this charge is being imposed by Irish Rail or if it is being imposed by Translink NI Railways; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.
The issues raised by the Deputies in relation to fees charged by Iarnród Éireann to free travel users is an operational matter for the company and I have therefore forwarded the Deputy's question to the Iarnród Éireann for direct reply.
Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
