205. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if his Department or the Office of Public Works has been asked to consider housing asylum seekers or Ukrainian refugees in Áras an Uachtaráin or on its grounds; if such a decision would ultimately be a matter for the OPW, the Government.; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy is aware, Aras an Uachtaráin is the official residence of the President of Ireland. As such, it would not be appropriate for the OPW to determine an alternative future use for the property.

I can confirm that the OPW has not been requested to consider the property as part of its programme to develop State lands for rapid build homes, as part of the humanitarian response to accommodating those fleeing from the war in Ukraine.
