237. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the current position in regard to the proposal to alleviate traffic congestion in Naas, County Kildare by way of inner or outer relief roads (details supplied); if the funding involved continues to be made available in line with the request of the majority of local authority representatives; the stage the plans are at in relation to the urgently required provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As set out in the reply to Question No 298 of 15 November 2022, the Naas Inner Relief Road project was cancelled by Kildare County Council following the rejection of the Part 8 planning application for the road by the elected members of the council in mid-2019. As the infrastructure was not proceeding, the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF) funding agreement was cancelled at that time.

My Department currently has no other funding allocated or project agreement in place with Kildare County Council to facilitate any housing-related road infrastructure in Naas. Overall responsibility for roads policy and funding is a matter for my colleague the Minister for Transport.
