49. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his concerns that the working conditions and pay of drivers in Bus Éireann may be affecting the staffing levels needed at the company; if he will meet with the National Transport Authority to examine whether their contracting and tendering model is fit for purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. However, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.

The matter raised in relation to the staffing levels within Bus Éireann is an operational matter for the company. I have, therefore, referred the Deputy's question to Bus Éireann for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
