The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister of Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.

The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that the appeal by the person concerned was disallowed by an Appeals Officer on 10 February 2022. The Appeals Officer subsequently carried out a review of the decision under Section 317 of the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005 following the submission of additional medical evidence. The outcome of the review issued on 9 May 2022 was that the decision was unrevised. 

Currently, the Appeals Officer is considering the appeal decision in the light of some further medical evidence. It is expected that the outcome of this Section 317 review will issue to the person concerned within the next two weeks.
