The Passport Service operates a general policy of only expediting applications in cases of genuine emergency such as a need for urgent medical treatment overseas or the death of a family member abroad. Such applications are expedited through the Travel Emergency service. All applications raised through the Travel Emergency service are assessed on a case-by-case basis. There are a small number of additional reasons to travel which the Travel Emergency team may consider, depending on the evidence provided. This includes representing Ireland at an international sporting event.
It is important to note that the Passport Service will only expedite a passport where entitlement to Irish citizenship has been proven and all other required supporting documents have been received by the Passport Service.
Elected representatives may make representations to me on behalf of citizens should they wish to bring a specific case to my attention.
