719. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if his Department and public bodies and agencies that operate under his remit run apprenticeship programmes or are directly engaged in the training of apprentices; if so, the number of apprentices involved; the specialities in which they are being trained; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not run any apprenticeship programmes, nor is it directly engaged in the training of apprentices. There are no agencies under the aegis of my Department.
From 2019-2021, the Department of Foreign Affairs participated in a Department of Public Expenditure & Reform led ICT apprenticeship programme. One officer was trained in my Department under that programme and upon successful completion of the apprenticeship joined the Department as an Executive Officer ICT Specialist.
