To ask the Minister for Finance if he, his Department or the Government have requested a derogation with respect to VAT as it applies to domestic energy bills through energy, gas and home heating oil; if so, the date on which the request was made; the specifics in relation to same, such as the rate to which he, his Department or the Government have sought to reduce the current VAT rate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As I previously stated, I wrote to Commissioner Gentiloni in early March regarding the need for Member States to have greater flexibility when responding the energy crisis, particularly in relation to the VAT and Excise Directives. I will continue to work with my European counterparts and the EU Commission to respond to the current energy crisis.
