Glyphosate is currently an EU-approved active substance for use in plant protection products. Public bodies can decide to use authorised products containing glyphosate if they consider that its use is necessary and providedthat the relevant provisions of the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive are complied with.

Authorised uses for glyphosate products will be reviewed again by all Member State competent authorities, based on the outcome from the EU review process that is ongoing. A decision at EU level must be reached before the current approval expires on 15th December 2022.
