317. To ask the Minister for Health if he will request the Health Service Executive to include the maintenance and upkeep of an AED register in the report that the HSE has commissioned on Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy of Ireland (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. AEDs (defibrillators) are available in many locations across society under the management of various organisations. The maintenance and upkeep of these devices is a matter for the supplying organisations. The HSE is not responsible for the supply or upkeep of AEDs. As such, an AED register would not be within the scope of the Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy.
