252. To ask the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth if he will ensure that all staff in his Department and public bodies and agencies that operate under his remit who, by necessity of their work have to come into close proximity with others, including other employees or members of the public are provided with medical grade masks in the EN14683 category; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The standard to which the Deputy refers, EN 14683, is a medical mask or surgical mask under the Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC – class I (for non-sterile medical masks) / Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/745 - class I (for non-sterile medical masks).
My Department currently makes disposable masks which conform to the standard E14683 available to DCEDIY staff members.
Each agency under my Department's remit has its own policy for the distribution of masks to their staff.
