To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht when she will report on the feasibility of establishing a digital legal deposit scheme for large-scale, systematic and sustained archiving of the Irish web domain as committed to in section 108 of the Copyright and Other Intellectual Property Law Provisions Act 2019; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department is working with the National Library of Ireland (NLI) on exploring the feasibility of expanding the NLI’s capacity to establish a digital legal deposit scheme to serve as a web archive for the .ie domain and work is ongoing.
There are differing viewpoints on the introduction of digital legal deposit and it is important that consultations incorporate all viewpoints. It is hoped to bring forward a report in the coming months.
