As of 1st July 2021, the HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service provisionally reported that there were 1,572,147 medical cards, of which 172,765 were provided on a discretionary basis and 525,135 GP Visit Cards, of which 35,159 were provided on a discretionary basis.

However it should be noted that due to the impact of the recent cyber-attack, eligibility data for this period may be subject to change once HSE systems are fully restored and the relevant data is reconciled.
