My Department has noted the recent Supreme Court judgment in the case referred to by the Deputy which relates to the procedures available to an applicant claiming a social welfare payment and who is dissatisfied with the outcome of a review of a previous decision made.

The judgment and its implications are currently being evaluated by my officials. As I am sure the Deputy will appreciate, I am not yet in a position to indicate a possible response or otherwise pending the outcome of this evaluation. However, pending this evaluation, the judgment is being implemented across the Department and the Social Welfare Appeals Office is now accepting appeals against review decisions.
