My Department allocates recurrent funding to the Higher Education Authority (HEA) for direct disbursement to HEA designated higher education institutions. The HEA allocates this funding to the institutions via the recurrent funding model.

The HEA has approved an earmarked allocation of €1,766,000 to NUI Galway (from the B4 recurrent allocation) for Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge for the last number of years.

In addition, in 2018 the then Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (now the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media) committed to providing €900,000 per academic year 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 for Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta.

This funding is transferred in instalments from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to the HEA for onward payment to NUI Galway.

Any further queries in relation to the €900,000 should be directed to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in the first instance for response.
