893. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of employees who are on secondment from her Department to other organisations; the number of these who are in receipt of a higher duty allowance; the number of staff who were previously seconded and subsequently returned to work in her Department on a lower grade than their secondment position; and if she will make a statement on the matter. There are currently 26 staff on secondment from my Department. 5 of the staff in question are in receipt of allowances in respect of the work that they are undertaking while on secondment.

In accordance with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform rules, during periods of secondment, staff maintain their terms and conditions of employment including their civil service grade and when the secondment period ends they return to the Department at that grade.
