154. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the lack of planning enforcement officers in Galway County Council; if the Council has sought additional funding from his Department to tackle these issues; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department oversees workforce planning for the local government sector, including the monitoring of local government sector employment levels. To this end, my Department gathers aggregate quarterly data on staff numbers in each local authority on a whole time equivalent basis.
However, granular data, in terms of the detailed breakdown of the number of planning enforcement officers employed by local authorities, is not collected and consequently is not available in my Department.
My Department has not been made aware of any lack of planning enforcement officers in Galway County Council and sanction for additional planning enforcement resources has not been sought from my Department by the Council.
