Motor tax for passenger cars is calculated on the car's emissions. Cars with higher CO₂emissions pay higher rates of motor tax.

The basis of assessment for the motor tax regime changed in Budget 2021 to WLTP CO₂emissions. A new rates table with an increased number of bands and a stronger environmental rationale was introduced in line with Government emissions reduction policy. I am satisfied with the current motor tax regime.
