126. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the number of times consular assistance has been provided in circumstances in which an issue has arisen at an airport or other point of international travel due to the fact that a parent or guardian has a different surname from that of his or her child. I can advise the Deputy that my Department places the highest priority on providing consular support and assistance to all our citizens, and particularly where a child’s interests are concerned.

While there may be instances where issues have arisen at airports or other points of international travel due to the fact that a parent or guardian has a different surname than their child, my Department is not necessarily informed of all of such instances and does not maintain a statistical record in relation to these specific issues.
