To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if periods of interruption of employment in, for example, the hospitality sector due to Covid-19 will be held against a worker when seeking renewal of work (details supplied); if not, if it will be sufficient to establish legal employment with the same employer at the start and end of the period with a period claiming the pandemic unemployment payment in between; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed have impacted in various ways on all persons in the State including those requiring immigration permissions.

Each application is examined on an individual basis and any person requiring a renewal of their permission should submit all relevant information for consideration. The Immigration Service of my Department will take into account the particular circumstances of any unemployment due to the pandemic.

Queries in relation to the status of individual immigration cases may be made directly to my Department by e-mail using the Oireachtas Mail facility which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Questions process. The Deputy may consider using the e-mail service except in cases where the response is, in the Deputy's view, inadequate or too long awaited.
