To ask the Taoiseach the intended purpose of the monitoring and compilation of reports on the social media activities of members of the public; the safeguards and protections in place to guide against a negative effect this could have on freedom of speech; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As part of the normal operation of the Department’s press office, traditional, print and social media are monitored for content of relevance to the work of the Department. In all cases, this involves only published content that is publically available - whether traditional media, print media or social media.
