216. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will examine the rules compelling taxi drivers to replace their cars after ten years in view of the crisis facing the sector due to Covid-19; and if so, if the rules in relation to same will be extended to 15 years which is currently in place for taxi drivers with a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Vehicle age limits for small public service vehicles (SPSVs) is a matter for the statutory regulator, the National Transport Authority (NTA). The Deputy may be aware that, at the start of the pandemic, the NTA extended age limits for vehicles until the end of this year. The NTA is now considering a further extension of age limits to the end of 2021 and is currently conducting a public consultation process on this proposal prior to making a decision.
