116. To ask the Minister for Finance if a large-scale scrappage scheme for petrol and diesel cars will be introduced in view of the plans to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2030. [30388/20]

Officials from my Department have considered the introduction of a car-scrappage scheme to promote the uptake of electric vehicles, and it is the Department’s view that a VRT based car scrappage scheme is unlikely to work well. The Department set out analysis on this proposal in the Climate Action and Taxes Tax Strategy Paper. This can be accessed at this link: .

There are currently no plans to introduce a car scrappage scheme.
