258. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the way in which applicants for driver's licence renewal who are non-nationals awaiting naturalisation documents with residency permits can be facilitated in having their applications processed when their required identifying documentation and Irish residence permit, IRP, is held up in the Department of Foreign Affairs due to delays caused by Covid-19 measures and in view of the fact that this can cause serious problems in travel and work through no fault of their own; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Covid-19 has had a profound effect on many services and has caused considerable backlogs in many areas. To renew a driving licence the Road Safety Authority (RSA) requires a person to produce certain documentation. As the IRP is subject to delays in the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy may wish to raise this matter directly with that Department.
