221. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there will be a pause or extension to the National Transport Authority rules compelling taxi drivers to replace their cars after ten years in view of the crisis facing the sector due to Covid-19; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The regulation of the small public service vehicle (SPSV) industry, including SPSV vehicle standards and age limits for vehicles, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013.
Given the role of the NTA as regulator, I have referred your question to the Authority for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days.
