218. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will consider adding a provision to the taxi regulations that would allow taxi and small public service vehicle owner-drivers to suspend their taxi plate for a year due to the current collapse of the trade in view of Covid-19 restrictions, and be able to reactivate their plate after a year without extra penalties or costs over and above a nominal administration fee. The regulation of the small public service vehicle (SPSV) industry, including regulatory measures in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013.

Given the role of the NTA as regulator, I have referred your question to the Authority for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days
