Carer's allowance (CA) is a means-tested social assistance payment made to a person who is habitually resident in the State and who is providing full-time care and attention to a child or an adult who has such a disability that as a result they require that level of care.

I can advise the Deputy that the number of CA applications received in my department from 1 January 2018 up to 31 August 2020 are as follows.

Year Number of Applications
2018 20,117
2019 19,402
2020* 12,211*

*up to 31 August 2020

I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
